Paranormal Activity

Photobucket

Ok so this film I was pretty skeptical of when I heard about it as people were citing it as "the scariest film ever made" ect ect and normally when a film gets this kind of hype its usually far from it! This film is an exception to that rule, I wouldn't go as far to say it is the scariest film of all time but it is really really freaky and is 100% worth seeing!

The film isn't over the top like most horror films are today and focuses on an authentic and believable plot line rather than gore and over the top effects. The film focuses on the build up and it gets really tense, you are just waiting for something to happen. The fact its all shot on a HD cam and they give a detailed explanation to why they are using a HD cam helps keep it believable and helps to create the illusion you arent watching a film your watching real footage.

There were moments in this film that really left me feeling cold and thats something that I haven't felt for a long time while watching a horror! To say this is the directorial and writing debut for Oren Peril he's done an incredible job! I also like the fact that the film uses unknown actors for the lead roles as it gives a sense that they are real couple rather than just some big name actors playing the part!

I hear there's plans for a sequel and I just want to scream NOOOOO! Dont DO IT! This fim is excellent and there really is no need for a sequel all that will accomplish will be to cheapen this movie and turn it into an unreadable franchise much like they have done with Saw. Anyhow I recommend you see this movie as soon as you get chance, but for know heres the trailer!

The wall of shame part one

So Im not sure if anyone else has noticed but pound world are selling a large amount of dvds that look god awful for the bargain price of yes you've guessed it one whole pound! So anyway me and my house mate Tom have decided its a fun idea to buy up as many of these films as we can and create a wall of shame! The rules are as follows we buy, we watch and then decide if its worthy of the wall SIMPLES!

Film Number one: Don't Look In The Basement
Photobucket

Im gonna start with the cover, I thought Id buy the film that looked worst and this cover deffo sold that to me. It looks likesomebody made this on paint or something its honestly terrible, just look really bad contrast on the images, that cheesy blood drips and the logo seriously all they have done is added a shadow to it. Who ever said dont judge a book by its cover was wrong!

Things get worse from here, the actual quality of this movie is terrible I swear the company who distributed this just got an old VHS and ripped the thing to DVD because the contrast is just terrible much like the cover, when any there are any dark colors on screen they are near impossible to see. Shame on you Elmstree Hill Entertainment

The plot, the acting and the dialog can be summed up in a short statement: predictable, over the top and just plain bad! To be fair thats exactly what makes a film like this so funny to watch, but I was also a little disappointed as this film was originally screened back to back with Wes Craven's Last House On The Left as that film also is extremely low budget it was for the time and still is a pretty messed up movie and as a result has managed to remain a cult status! So the film really didn't deserve the opening "its only a movie" speech like Last House On The Left got.

Still This film was worth every penny ;) and if you want a good laugh id recommend checking it out
